Mustang 45th Anniversary at Barber Motorsports Park

The Mustang 45th Anniversary was huge, but unfortunately I didn't get to see much of it. The Paddock for the Mustang Challenge was tucked down behind the main grand stand and a tram ride away from most of the activities in the infield. I was pretty busy with all three Speedworks Mustangs in action plus the Kenny Brown CSR-69 Mustang. Ben Crosland was racing #45 in race 1 and 2 and hot shoe Paul Brown, seasoned professional Mustang race car driver, raced #44 in race 2.
Plus we had a couple of Mustang icons Scott Pruitt and Tommy Kendall driving the #44 and #21 cars for celebrity rides. That was kind of cool as I have worked with both Scott Pruitt and Tommy Kendall in the past and haven't seen either one for many years. In fact, talking with Scott under the Speedworks canopy seemed a little surreal and nostalgic all at once. Three yellow, black and white race prepared Mustangs at the track was more than reminiscent of the 1987 all conquering Championship Saleen Mustang program of which we both were an important part.

As I was saying I was a tad busy so I enlisted my son Paul Brown, professional Mustang racer, to give rides in the Kenny Brown CSR-69 Mustang for me. Just like everywhere else, the CSR-69 was a crowd stopper and camera magnet. It seemed very much in place at the 45th, a melding of old and new Mustang, surrounded by old and new Mustangs. For the lucky few who had a chance to ride with Paul in the CSR-69, it did not disappoint. The debut of my new GT-4 suspension in the CSR-69 worked flawlessly and Paul had no problem keeping up with and even running away from cars having up to twice as much horsepower on track.
