The #1 rule I follow when building the ultimate track car, or warmed-up every day driver for that matter, is there is more speed in the chassis than in the engine and a good handling chassis trumps a big motor every time. Before you start working on the engine or adding lots of power, build your performance foundation first. The foundation consists of four elements - chassis, suspension, wheels, tires and brakes. It doesn't make a lot of sense to me to add a bunch of extra power, when you're not using all the power you currently have.

In 2011 Paul Brown worked closely with JRZ to develop a unique race shock package for the BOSS 302S Mustang.   JRZ’s are a top shelf and highly regarded damper at the highest levels of professional racing, and a key to Paul’s dominant performance in the 2011 championship.  The only set-back is the JRZ Race Line shocks used by Paul in the Pirelli World Challenge series are around $9,000 for the package, a little salty for our track day and club racing customers, but worth every penny if you want to win.

Slick Trick for Measuring Ride Height

Kenny Brown Guide To Measuring Ride Height
1 of 1

Before changing springs on your Mustang always measure the starting ride height so you have something to compare to when new springs are installed. The easiest and quickest way that I use is measuring from the ground to the bottom lip of the wheel wells through the center of the wheel. If you do this and discover that no two corners on your car are the same, you just found out why adjustable coil-over struts are just so darn handy.

The other day someone asked me, "Is the Shelby GT500 your new Cobra R?"…  After some reflection, the comment did resonate with me in fact it remind me of 2003 and 2004, when around 200 Cobra R race cars started showing up at my door.  That’s about the time Cobra-R owners serious about track-days and racing were surpassing the capabilities of their cars and wanted to go to the next level.

I have a saying - "A Bad Day at the Track is better than a Good Day at the Office!"  That makes a good day at the track absolutely PRICELESS.  Well I had one of those priceless days at the track recently at Putnam Park.  Over the winter one of my customers George decided to step up the performance of his 2001 Kenny Brown Cobra.  George does quite a few track days and wanted to be able to run with the really fast guys.  So he added a Vortech Supercharger and had the engine upgraded.  More power is great but unless the rest of the car is

Kenny Tests: The H&R RSS Coil Over Suspension Kit for S-197 Mustang (‘05+)

The H&R RSS Mustang Coil Over Suspension Kit - First Class Stuff!

A good spring and shock package is critical to maximize performance, handling and grip. The trick is to come up with enough spring rate to support the chassis and enough shock rate to control motion – all without being so firm that the car skips across the bumps or bounces your fillings out.
