Ford Racing Mustang Challenge Season Finale

That’s a Wrap!

Well the Ford Racing Mustang Challenge season has come to an end.  Ten races at 8 tracks literally from coast to coast and north to south.  It’s been a great year for the Mustang Challenge Series and finished on a high note – get it “high” as in Salt Lake at 4500 feet in altitude.  The other high note was the final race was back to full strength with 26 entries.  This should bode well for next year.  At the season finale at Miller Motorsports Park in Salt Lake we had all three Speedworks Mustangs in action.  Ben Crosland in the #45, Ed Lever was back in the #44 and newcomer Michael DeNino in the #21.  All three did very well, the Speedworks Mustangs performed flawlessly and they all ran a good race.  Most notable was Ben’s inspired drive through the field.

Through out the weekend we had Ben was consistently in the top of the timing sheets and qualified a very solid 5th out of 26.  He got a really good start and moved to 4th only to be “punted” twice from behind.  It was the second hit that spun him all the way back to 26th.

Even with an extended full course yellow, Ben drove his way through the field with purpose and poise all the way up to 10th.  Seeing as Miller is his home track, Ben was enthusiastically cheered on with every overtake by his family and friends in the grandstands.

Ben was driving so well throughout the entire weekend, we thought he had a good shot at a podium finish but a bone-headed maneuver by another driver well over his head snatched that chance away.  On the bright side Ben showed what he was made of driving back to 10th from 26th.  In fact Ben has shown remarkable progress throughout the season.  I think his result at Miller serves notice for next year that Ben Crosland is the real deal and force to be reckoned with.
18th, 12th, 6th, 5th, 7th crash and a heroic drive from 26th to 10th.

Rather than go on and on about the whole season, I’ll refer to the saying that a picture is worth a thousand words.  So I asked Wes Duenkel, an outstanding motorsports photographer I might point out, to put together a gallery of the season in photos of the Speedworks team.  So without further ado -
